Training Contracts at Mishcon de Reya

We are structured into six different departments: Corporate; Employment; Family; Litigation; Private and Real Estate. Our trainees have the opportunity to gain experience, skills and knowledge from across the Firm in four, six-month seats.

If you are successful in gaining a training contract, you will be involved in a variety of cases with a high degree of responsibility. You will also be an integral part of the team and as you progress through your seats, you will increasingly be expected to play an active role in the management of matters.

During each seat rotation, trainees sit with a Solicitor or Partner who acts as their supervisor allocating work to them and ensuring that they are also getting regular opportunities to work with a variety of fee-earners. They also play an active role in advising and developing their trainee throughout their training contract.

Summer Vacation Scheme

We are now closed for our Summer Vacation Scheme 2012.

Our two week summer vacation scheme has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to gain an insight into the role of a trainee, our culture and our people. We run a fun and informative seminar programme covering all practice areas of the Firm, combined with individual and group work sessions. Participants on our schemes enjoy real work and exposure to clients. But it’s not all work: we also organise social events where you can get to know us better.

We run two summer vacation schemes each year: if you secure a place you will spend each week in a different department, supervised by a fee-earner and trainee who will involve you in their daily work and allocate tasks to you from a variety of fee-earners in the group. Most of our trainees have been vacation scheme students themselves, so in order to support you during your time with us we will pair you up with one of our trainees to act as your “buddy”.

By the end of the scheme, you will not only have experienced first-hand our unique culture and the type of work we do but more importantly, whether Mishcon de Reya is right for you.

See below some quotes from those that have attended the summer vacation scheme in 2010 & 2011.

“The work was exciting and new to me, although supervised I was given responsibility for bundles that went to court and felt like part of the team”(July 2010)

“All positive and felt welcomed by all. The famed culture was clear to see.”(July 2010)

“I know it’s a cliché but the scheme exceeded my expectations unlike any other firm.”(July 2011)

“I love the people, I love the culture and I love the work that you get – even as a student!”(July 2011)

“I enjoyed all the workshops – they were interactive and fun. I can’t single out a favourite!”(July 2011)

The summer vacation scheme is an excellent way for you to apply for a training contract. Assessment days and interviews for our 2012 summer vacation scheme will take place in February and March 2012. Those that are shortlisted for training contracts during the scheme will be invited back for training contract interviews in August or September 2012.

We accept applications from:

  • - Penultimate-year and final-year undergraduate students
  • - Postgraduates
  • - Any other graduate wishing to commence a training contract in two years’ time.

We are still open for Opinions, but the Summer vacation scheme has now closed.
